The SIDAS project (System of intelligent detection and signaling of collision conditions to increase track safety), announced as part of the research and development support program of the Ministry of Industry and Trade TRIO, aims to improve railroad traffic safety, mainly by securing railroad crossings. This project will develop a preventive detection system that can determine with a high degree of certainty whether the situation at a particular crossing poses a collision risk. It aims to combine different methods of computer vision sensors that can eliminate the effects of disrupting factors (rain, fog, darkness, snow) on the ability to recognize objects on the crossing and the movement of trains in the vicinity. A fundamental innovation in the project is the use of an optical interferometer in combination with computer vision and an expert system.

CertiCon a.s., became the technical coordinator for this project on October 1, 2016, with the aim of creating a solution for ensuring greater safety on railroads using an intelligent camera systems. Also participating in the project will be VŠB – Technical University of Ostrava.
